About ADHD
What is ADHD?
ADHD, or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects attention, concentration, focus, impulsivity and hyperactivity.
What are the common signs of ADHD?
For some, that can mean being easily distracted, forgetful or restless; for others, it can be struggling with organisation, managing time or regulating emotions.
How can ADHD impact someone's life?
Unmanaged, ADHD can cause difficulties at work and school due to issues with focus and time management. Impulsiveness can also impact personal safety while relationships may be impacted by struggles with emotional regulation.
How is ADHD diagnosed?
ADHD is diagnosed through a comprehensive assessment by a specialist clinician with extensive training, typically involving interviews, questionnaires and observation. Following assessment, a detailed report outlines the findings, which can support access to educational or workplace adjustments, therapy and other forms of help.
Assessments and diagnosis
The key is recognising ADHD early so that challenges can be managed and strengths can be optimised.
